Maui Wind Wahine Report
This past week the conditions have been pretty nice. Its been a little gusty out at Ho'okipa but if you drive down towards Kanaha it gets more filled in with lots of wind. I have been sailing on my 4.0 and have been perfectly powered up. The waves are dying down a lot so I'm crossing my fingers for a swell hit soon! All of us girls have been sailing a lot lately and were ready to meet up for some Sushi in Paia.

The Athens Windsurfing Indoor 2007

Update: "Due to unforeseeable circumstances, the Athens Indoor has had to be postponed to a date later in the year. This has been caused by a scheduling alteration at the stadium which was outside of the control of the Organizers and the PWA. As a result, the current entry process will close and become void. A new entry form will be sent out once the new dates have been confirmed. We apologise for any inconvenience. Best Regards, Professional Windsurfers Association

...The latest premium addition to this PWA landmark season is the inclusion of a glittering new indoor contest in Athens, Greece. Spanning the weekend of 21st and 22nd April, the spectacle is to be housed at the waterside Peace and Friendship Stadium, which hosted many preliminaries and finals during the 2004 Olympic Games, and is one of Greeces top entertainment and sporting venues. Capable of seating around 14.000 people, the arenas unique internal layout guarantees spectators will see all the action close up and personal! The NESCAFE sponsored contest will offer a monstrous 50.000 euro prize Purse for which both Men and Women will fight tooth and nail for their share through the three disciplines of Jump, Freestyle and Slalom. With a bounty at stake, and pride on the line, there is no doubt that all the best racers, jump performers and freestylers will be lured into electrifying the crowds of Piraeus, the epicenter of maritime Greece, the Mediterranean and beyond. Maui Wind Wahine Report

Yay! The wind came back like how the forecast predicted. Ann Marie, Julianna, Nayra and I were all really excited to windsurf out at Ho'okipa today. The waves were a perfect size to have a fun, playful session and we were riding from 4.2 to 4.7 sails. Had an awesome day sailing and hope you did too!
Much Aloha!

Starboard prepares for "return of daggerboard sailing and tactical racing"

(Starboard press release). With Starboards comprehensive range that covers the entire windsurfing spectrum and often goes beyond the extremes, few would have thought that there were any windsurfing niches left for the brand to explore. This is where Raceboards come in. With events that offer more 1st prize money than even than the most glamorous PWA 1st prize money and the trend towards windsurfing in lighter and lighter winds picking up momentum, Raceboarding could just about resurface as the next discipline to drive windsurfing popularity. At the 2007 Raceboard European Championships in April, Starboard will be launching their new Phantom Race 380 and Phantom Race 320, designed for the Raceboard 380 class and 320 class respectively, with current reigning Raceboard Champion Patrik Pollack riding the 380 fresh out of its mould.

The Phantom Race 380 is designed to take maximum advantage out of ISAFs new Raceboard class rules where daggerboards up to 85cm deep and sails up to 9.5m2 are allowed. Measuring 380cm by 70cm, the board is a tad wider than conventional raceboards. As Remi Vila explains, the extra width was only possible thanks to the new 85cm deep daggerboard, giving the board its VMG edge upwind and downwind. The extra-long adjustable mast track has a
75cm adjustment range to work with 9.5m2 rigs and the board comes fitted with a complete set of eight Ultralight footstraps.
The Phantom Race 320 is the more recreational all-wind board, designed as the board you would take down to the beach on the weekends for a fun sail whether it is blowing 3 knots or 23 knots. Being more compact, it planes up and rides like a smaller board, whilst in lightwinds the 70cm daggerboard and long slender profile gives you a pleasant glide with power on tap.

Svein Rasmussen: "The Raceboard class is alive and kicking in several countries, and the Worlds in Argentina will be the 2007 highlight. In Taiwan there is a Raceboard event this year with USD 30,000 first prize, richer than any PWA event first prize. With the long awaited return of daggerboard sailing and tactical racing, the Phantom Race 380 is breath of fresh air into the Raceboard scene, revitalizing the class. The smaller Phantom Race 320 is the board dedicated to the Hybrid division of the race board class and fits exactly within the max length. The Hybrid Class is by several sources speculated as the breeder of the next Olympic board, as its a development class with boards that are upgrades from the current RSX, thus will fit in as well proven designs to take the hybrid concept one step further. Exciting times ahead."

PWA: Top Wave Event Sal & new Tour Stop

Powerful, over mast high surf and side offshore winds combined to deliver the best down the line waveriding of any contest in PWA history:
PWA video report! (photo left: PWA/Carter)

"The PWA proudly confirms that the 2007 Slalom 42 tour will open with another brand new and exciting tour stop in Ulsan, South Korea. The event, in association with the Ulsan Broadcasting Corporation, is scheduled from May 5th to 12th. With a new title race open, and glory at stake, this exciting new location and its attractive 45.000 Euro prize purse is guaranteed to attract the big hitters of the PWAs exclusive Slalom 42 discipline.

The event also marks the beginning of another series of cut-throat competition for the womens fleet. Reigning World Champion, and windsurfings undisputed all-round performer Karin Jaggi (F2 / North), is sure to face unparalleled pressure from last years runner up Verena Fauster (F2 / Gaastra) and tactical race specialist Allison Shreeve (F2 / NeilPryde), who are bound to have raised their game in the off-season.

Ulsan, a metropolitan city in the south-east of South Korea, is a magnet for Asian windsurfers who visit it for its beach scene, and quality windsurfing conditions. The Sea of Japan resort has hosted many regional events and can now boast winning full international PWA status. The long white sandy beach of Jinha will doubtlessly reward the cream of pro windsurf racers with its favorable spring time trade winds and warm tropical waters."
