Moreno Twins Girls Training Camp on Tenerife

(text & photos: Naish) About 50 motivated windsurfing girls from 15 countries met at Tenerife on April 29 for a "girls only" windsurfing camp. Naish Riders Anne Marie Reichman (Holland) and Ashley Baxter (Maui) attended the event, and had a great week of fun, sailing and learning.
Anne Marie: "To me, this is a great thing for womens windsurfing! From beginner to pro, it didnt matter - we were all able to work on our next big move in a really positive environment, plus the opportunity to just sail with girls was really cool. I was invited to be a teacher for both yoga (in the morning) and windsurfing, and had a lot of fun with 50 stoked girls!

We were lucky with great conditions and lots of wind - we spent many hours on the water at our playground (El Medano Bay), where we ripped it up for ourselves, the photographers and video cameras! All of that plus an excursion through Tenerife (on a windless day) and many fun moments getting to know each other made the week fly by."

Naish rider Ashley Baxter, who is just 16 years old, was one of the youngest participants and traveled all the way from Hawaii! This was her first experience with port tack sailing, and she did great! In July she will be back in Grand Canaria with her brother Connor during the PWA event, so this was an excellent warm up.

To me it was great to see the girls pushing themselves, read the fire in their eyes, and see the smiles after doing their first forward (or making their jibes). It was very rewarding to pass on my experiences to other windsurfing girls - it was a chance to give back some of the support I received when I was learning. It was great for my sailing too - seeing girls "going for it" is very inspiring and I already can feel I am pushing myself harder again after this camp. See you on the water!
Saludos de Grand Canaria,
Anne-Marie Reichman

The 2007 Ulsan PWA World Cup

Event summary:
Swiss legend Karin Jaggi (F2 / North) showed no mercy, winning an incredible 9 out of 10 races in the womens event. Sarah Hebert (Starboard / Naish) stole second place from Ayako Suzuki (Starboard / Gaastra) who claimed third position.

In detail:
Day 3:

The sudden arrival of 20 knots of wind this afternoon brought smiles to the faces of competitors today after glassy water and a weak forecast kept them idle this morning. First on the agenda was the completion of the race 3 final. Karin Jaggi keeps the event lead in the womens competition despite a disqualification hiccup that handed Sarah Hebert second place. Ayuko Suzuki also went over early but keeps third position overnight.
.
Day2:
In the ladies fleet Karin Jaggi showed much improved starting skill from yesterday, and ruthlessly used this advantage to protect her lead. In Womens Race 3 she put considerable distance between herself and Sarah Hebert, and Ayuko Suzuki who had a fantastic struggle for the runners-up slot. On this occasion Hebert succeeded after accelerating away from Suzuki on the 4th leg to score second as Ayuko settled for third. In race 4 Jaggi once more sped off the line and put a considerable margin between herself and the rest of the fleet. This time however Ayuko Suzuki put the hammer down and kept Hebert at bay to claim second over Armenias sole representative. (text and photo: PWA)

Strong wind, Whale shark and masquerade party in Dahab
I just came home to Sweden after spending almost 2 months in Dahab, Egypt. It has been a great time with lots of sailing and lots of fun.
I have used 3.4-4.7 and both the Skate99 and freewave86. I have experienced the windiest day in my life, completely overpowered with 3.4 + freewave86 and could barely sail straight forward and hold the sail. But a fun day!!!

Another funny experience was about a week ago when we where going snorkelling on a non-windy day. After about ten minutes the man on the boat started to scream "SHARK" and tried to get us back to the boat. I looked up from the water and could see a fin a couple of meters away and I can make sure I was swimming back to the boat really fast. Once in the boat we could see it was NOT a dangerous one. It was a 5 meter Whale shark!!! Very rare, and soooo beautiful.

I want to say big thanks to the Club Dahab staff (www.clubvass.com/club_dahab) who are the best ones, I had so much fun thanks to you guys!

4 Jacquline

Info by Naish: We are writing you about 6-year-old Jacquline, the daughter of Vince and Annette Steves, who are respected longtime members of the Maui surfing and windsurfing community. Earlier this month, Jacquline was diagnosed with a severe and aggressive form of bone cancer called Ewings Sarcoma, and has been undergoing intensive chemotherapy and surgery. We at Naish are doing everything we can to help, and we hope you can too.

A website www.4jacquline.com has been set-up so that anyone who wants to help can send support and donations. A benefit show that featured Andy Church and his band "Ultrasound" as well as Kiteboarding Pro Ben Meyer was held at Jacques Sunday night, April 29, but there is still a long way to go. Please visit Jacqulines website and help the Steves family in their time of need.
