Iballa Ruano Moreno takes Aloha and PWA wave crown!

2006 PWA Aloha Classic winners: Jaggi (2.), Iballa Ruano Moreno (1.), Nagoshi (3.); PWA girls partying

Iballa Ruano Moreno (Mistral / North Sails) wins the 2006 PWA Aloha Classic in Hookipa and takes the 2006 wave world championship -- her second PWA World title. Iballas fluid style and impressive aerials have held the judges captive to allow her the honor of winning the single elimination of the prestigious event. By the way: A fleet of 25 (!!) women has made this competition a remarkable success in the history of womens pro windsurfing.

With her sister Daida (Mistral / North Sails) having been knocked out in the semi-finals by an on-form Henderson and Nagoshi, she had it all to play for with the Womens world title on the line but the pressure only helped spur her on to an extremely impressive performance, clinching the win in the single elimination and thus burrying Daidas hope for yet another world title.

Karin Jaggi (F2 / North Sails), ever present in the upper echelons of Womens windsurfing scored a solid second place, narrowly beating Junko Nagoshi (F2 / Simmer) who had sailed extremely impressively throughout the competition. Jennifer Henderson (Starboard), a well-known Hookipa legend among the women had to settle for a very respectable fourth place this evening after winning all of her heats up until the final.

Showing that she is definitely someone to watch in the future, local Maui girl Tatiana Howard (Naish / Naish) impressed the judges today with some very stylish and fluid waverides. Only 20 years of age, Tati had to miss her class at College today in order to sail in her first ever semi final.

On the last day of competition the almost inevitable decision was made to run only the mens double elimination (Josh Angulo for winning the event and Kevin Pritchard for his world title), knowing there would not be time to run the men and women side by side. This meant that Iballa definitely was crowned Womens Wave World Champion for the second time in her career. Congratulations!

		Season End The RSX World Championships ended on September 30th, which finished my 2006 season. I came home to Vancouver, was in bed sick needing recuperation for two weeks and then went to Vipassana, (a ten day meditation retreat in Merritt, BC). Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of Indias most ancient techniques of meditation. It was a very interesting and rewarding experience and will most definitely help my mental game in competition. And now... I am back to planning for the upcoming season and working hard at the gym! I am very excited to have qualified for National Team in windsurfing!!! especially in my first season. Next year in July is our first Olympic Qualifier, in which I hope to solidify my spot to represent Canada the the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Until then I am optimizing my training opportunities to gain as much experience and skill as I can. This year I had several new supporters join me on my journey to Beijing. Thank you! This week I head to Cocoa Beach, Florida for a Canadian Sailing Team training camp. Following that I will be going to Buzios, Brazil for another training camp for 3 weeks. We are an international group of 5 girls training together. 		PWA Aloha Classic Presented by JP Australia - Open Womens Junko Nagoshi-Buzianis, Jennifer Henderson, photos: www.davidblythphotographyco.uk Day 2: The conditions continued to improve into the second day of the Aloha Classic, with winds gusting up to 20kts today. The waves were a little smaller than previous day, but made for spectatular jumping conditions with amazing huge jumps being thrown by all. The Open Womens Division and the Men Masters Division went off and really brought out some amazing talent from pros and amatures a like. Many pros have been using the amature divisions as warm ups for the pro divisions and have really pulled out the stops with nothing to loose. In the Open Womens category, many of the pro women came out to support the open women, whether on the beach, or on the water, it was great to see many new and upcoming ladies getting into the toughest competition they have seen yet. With new comers Ashley Baxter, Paulina Pease, and Kristen Orth, they surely learned alot of sailing against some of the best ladies in the world today, with past Aloha winner, Jennifer Henderson, and top wave sailor, Junko Nagoshi. These two ladies battled up the ladders and ended up in the final with Junko coming out on top. The Masters Men Division had Josh Stone, new to the Masters category, really pushing in the trying conditions, and in the final ended up battling Phil Mc Gain for the win. Phil pulled of some great sky high jumps and delayed forwards, but it was Josh Stones amazing push loops with perfect landings that really brough him in at the top spot. 		RedBull Stormchase - storm with 50 knots this morning at the baltic sea! WHAT A DAY! better: the last days were quite exciting. On Sunday afternoon I got a phone call with the result to chase the storm at the Baltic Sea with Matze Baade, because the second voted Normen Guenzlein injured his knee last friday ( all the best for you, Normen!).... And: the weather forecast looked really promsing for the 1th of november, today! We met at 6.45 this morning, it was still dark, the whole road was covered with parts from trees and all kinds of stuff and the temperature reading was around 5 degrees! It s super windy! The kids weren´t allowed to go to school and the ferries stopped their service. An oil platform got lost in the northsea and a big storm flood is approaching Hamburg and the cities south of Kiel. Let s hope nobody got injured! The wind force this morning: 52 knots northwesterly direction! Which means: nice waves on the baltic sea! We checked one of my favourite spots, Weissenhaus, but the wind was too onshore... but still, the baltic sea was flying.....crazy! We ended up in Lippe, which seemed to be the right spot for the chase..... I rigged my smallest sail, and used my F2 Guerilla 69, which was fully controllable and Matze did the same... This year I never sailed with my 3,4 with full power on Gran Canaria..... this means the storm was super strong!! I think it was the strongest wind I ever sailed......... It was more surviving than showing super big action...but we were both super stoked that we managed it! The others from Germany, Klaas Voget and Torben Sonntag, scored great conditions on Norderney, an island in the North Sea.... and the guys in England, Ireland and in the other countries scored as well!!!!!! 		New Nautical Mile Speed Record 31.10.2006, Walvis Bay: Two windsurfing speed world records have been broken today, but are still subject to WSSRC ratification. Zara Davis (T1, Gaastra) bettered the world record by more than one knot to 34.74 knots!
