Moreno Twins Girls Training Camp on Tenerife

(text & photos: Naish) About 50 motivated windsurfing girls from 15 countries met at Tenerife on April 29 for a "girls only" windsurfing camp. Naish Riders Anne Marie Reichman (Holland) and Ashley Baxter (Maui) attended the event, and had a great week of fun, sailing and learning.
Anne Marie: "To me, this is a great thing for womens windsurfing! From beginner to pro, it didnt matter - we were all able to work on our next big move in a really positive environment, plus the opportunity to just sail with girls was really cool. I was invited to be a teacher for both yoga (in the morning) and windsurfing, and had a lot of fun with 50 stoked girls!

We were lucky with great conditions and lots of wind - we spent many hours on the water at our playground (El Medano Bay), where we ripped it up for ourselves, the photographers and video cameras! All of that plus an excursion through Tenerife (on a windless day) and many fun moments getting to know each other made the week fly by."

Naish rider Ashley Baxter, who is just 16 years old, was one of the youngest participants and traveled all the way from Hawaii! This was her first experience with port tack sailing, and she did great! In July she will be back in Grand Canaria with her brother Connor during the PWA event, so this was an excellent warm up.

To me it was great to see the girls pushing themselves, read the fire in their eyes, and see the smiles after doing their first forward (or making their jibes). It was very rewarding to pass on my experiences to other windsurfing girls - it was a chance to give back some of the support I received when I was learning. It was great for my sailing too - seeing girls "going for it" is very inspiring and I already can feel I am pushing myself harder again after this camp. See you on the water!
Saludos de Grand Canaria,
Anne-Marie Reichman
