The 2007 PWA Aloha Classic Has Been Postponed Until The 2008 Season (press release) Originally scheduled for Nov 5-17th, the event has been withdrawn from the calendar due to difficulties in securing title sponsorship. Despite the very best efforts from both the PWA, and the local organizers, there was not enough time to source any alternative sponsors worthy of such a premium event. Further complications were also encountered due to a lack of rental housing available on the north shore since the Maui Countys crack down on transient vacation rentals. This scenario left many competitors and sponsors struggling to find suitable accommodation over the holding period. The good news is that discussions regarding an event for 2008 are already in an advanced stage to secure a true spectacle for next seasons conclusion to the wave sailing tour. Until then the newest location on the PWA wave series in Tiree, Scotland, will have the honor of awarding the 2007 mens wave sailing trophys to the winners and the ladies will receive their silverware on Sunday at the current event in the North Sea resort of Sylt, Germany. With the 2007 seasons 3 new locations all looking promising for next year the 2008 calendar looks to be healthier than ever before for the sport and the riders who compete on the toughest tour on earth. /text; PWA / Brian McDowell) Online Petition: www.ipetitions.com/petition/MauiResidents posted by editors at 10/01/2007 10:27:00 PM |
